Communications

This is an excellent commercial which focuses on communication, which I learnt in class either people to technology or people to people. Its very funny ad on understanding either through speaking, reading, writing or listening or even through images is very important.

Loud shirt day

I have been looking for this website since last Friday and I have finally found it, I didn't want to tell anyone that I was looking for it because I didn't want to look like an idiot and thinking that it did exists when really it didn't. I overheard a conversation where my sister was talking on the phone about Loud shirt day and I thought yeh it might be true inwhich She made me wear a loud shirt on Friday 11 May 2007, I won't even tell you what colour I wore. I hope you guys wore shirts that really stood out too on the day. I wanted to know a little more about this Charity and I found it on loudshirtday.com.au Its a fundraising activity to raise money for great kids and we are talking about deaf kids. This is the first time I have ever hear a charity award and it was quite exciting, unfortunately my work colleagues didn't know about it and it would have been good to have everyone at work wear something loud and proud, plus it might brighten the place up to. I would love to have a link to this website form my own and help support the kids out there. They are the future and by help raising funds for their education, lifestyle and career opportunities it would make this world a brighter place...and on the website.

If I had to redesign their website I would make it more appealing in term of colour and design. The user capabilities has an easy flow and quite clear. The navigation level is on the left hand side of the screen with main copy on the right hand side. Major things I would change are the text size; there is too much text sizing for the eye and some images are quite small and need some more quirky or fun images of.

So Happy LOUD Shirt day to all those kids out there

Changes

If you guys are wondering if I have read this blog, well maybe you have but the design layout keeps chaning, I get bored very quickly with my design template. I prefer to change colours form time to time, just like when you wake and you want to know what to wear today. SOmetimes I foget if today is saturday or sunday...anyway I came across an excellent design site which provides details about colour, pattern, products and also information about other designers. This really helped me to put a design concept together.
The design on the left handside is from Tord Boontje's which is called Ivy Panel, its a panel for the wall. The second picture of the blossom is a note pad from Binth's

See aplustore

This website provides different products for homeware and personal items but I came across these design which is a reflection and provides ideas for my website. The website capabilities and functions were easy to use from a customers perspective. Its quite boring in term of design but the concept or focal point was the product. I think the website could have some what more colour and re design the layout of the product display. There top navigation is very clean and clear for the viewer, and the navigation list on the left hand side lists a category of products sold which is also a normal design function. I would redesign it so it doesn't look so nutritional or medical looking, the logo is quite boring and also it shows a medical status rather than selling home ware products. This could be there website concept but if I had to redesign the web page where it will still keep the main functional aspects but have it a lot more trendy and vibrant and I would re-engineer the page layout and a way to attract customers to buy the item. I'm not trying to bag out the website its just I would of done it differently.

Homeware product in this generation is a growing trend everybody is buying something for their house, it continually changes all the time. I noticed my mum keeps buying products and designs for our kitchen or the living room. Colours are important and so is design, if you put effort into the website people will think this person really knows what they are talking about in regards whats happening with the world today etc,..(see First Impression count for web). I need to make sure the design layout, colour and so on reflect my target audience; as 5 seconds on a website is so important before the viewer click away.

Design your own dress

This website is similar to the concept on what I am looking at however its not a competition it's for demales who want to design their own dresses for themself not for the whole market place. I think it really suits for those girlie girls out there...so gurls in my class you guys might like this site.

http://www.studio28couture.com/

This site allows the person to be a designer without further cutting and sewing it up. It allows a variety of styles, fabrication and also deisgn. Costs for a dress is approximately $180 which is probably on the expensive range. The colours shown are not very attractive through the whole site plus I think its too messy. Functionality is quite simple, interactive and easy steps to follow for the user but poor design especially the homepage.

AVERAGE

A new found Australian/New Zealand designers who have resurfaced their brand in the fashion industry. A partnership of guys decided to create average, funky and simple designs that are affordable just because the idea came up over a drink at the pub...gee sounds like R.K Tolkien, the book writer who writes his novels in pubs only.....Young designers ion this day an age creating t-shirts and trying to selling them at high price and trying to set them self out there with other designers. This partnership "differentiates themself from mainstream brands, which are reliant on engineered imagery and slogans" Gracie said. I don't know if we need another t-shirt company to open up, a very competitive market, especially if they are selling limited ranges.

My Macro and Micro Analysis

Micro and Macro Technologies
Name: Hai XUyen PhanStudent Number: 10280891

MICRO AND MACRO TECHNOLOGIES

OVERVIEW

This report details the Micro and Macro analysis of each technology that I will use for my final project and why I chose that particular technology.

My research project is to capture a variety of design fields from fashion to graphic and all the way to engineering. My website is going to hold a competition where people will express themselves to the world and to show their talents. I am setting up a product arrangement from T-shirts, caps, singlet, skirts, pencil case etc. Designers have an opportunity to upload their designs on to my website. The user would have to log in and vote on the designs. The design that have the most votes will be printed onto the products .The user can also purchase the design through my website at anytime which I will have a secure payment link.
This is a major project but realistically what I want to achieve in this project is to create login accounts for each user. Where people will sign up and join my community. Once the individual signs up the next process is a email confirmation will be delivered to their email account in which the user will confirm the final process. And if I have time I would like to build a web page where the community can upload their designs on to my web server and the the user can purchase the product with a secure payment option or they can add it on to their shopping cart.
The technologies I will be using for this project are in two categories: Client Side technologies and Server side technologies.

CLIENT SIDE TECHNOLOGIES
These technologies deal with various client side operations such as:
(01) Sending a request information to the Web Server
(02) Data processing on the client side for calculation purpose
(03) Data validation on the client side before it is sent to server to ensure if the data is right.
(04) Controlled display of various components on the client side browser (for eg. colour, font or data like date or email)

The technologies which I will be using on the client side are

HTML (Hyper Text Markup Language)
HTML (Hyper Text Markup Language) is one of most commonly used and quite popular languages for web programming. In order to create web pages you need to know some basic HTML. However, as compared to XHTML (Extensible Hyper Text Markup Language), it is not strict. I have chosen HTML and not XHTML because I will only need to create web pages and then work out with data through server scripting language like PHP and validation using
JavaScript. it fits well on the browser side and interacts well with the web server and also I feel comfortable in using HTML. Overall, it works well with other technologies it is helpful in sending data to the web server.

Micro Analysis
The kind of technology that HTML is that generally a client side technology, used to create web pages which runs on the user browser. HTML is suitable for its use where in order to create web pages but without stressing on the importance of XML based data. HTML has a lot of qualities that will be suitable for my project is that it is easier to learn, Simple to write as its a collection of tags and that strict tags are not required. HTML matches my skills and needs where I am flexible with my skills where it will help me develop this project. HTML will be place and used in the proposed system architecture through the client side for sending a request to the web server and the formatting of my website.

Macro Analysis
HTML is a open source technology which it follows the W3C (World Wide Web Consortium) standard and guidelines. HTML has a lot of commercial support which is one of the most popular communities for web page development and it is easily available. HTML supports the development of day to day web applications which also has multi-language support such as Japanese, Chinese and Spanish. Use of HTML is quite common in development of Web application. However, it is not an integral part of web architecture as there are alternatives such as XHTML. Mainly end-users of a web application are users of this technology. The Purpose of its use is mainly to send requests to the web server in an interactive web application environment.

JavaScript
JavaScript is a client side scripting language that allows dynamic manipulation of the Document Object Model and CSS. I will use JavaScript for error validation. JavaScript enables various events to be trapped and action be taken.

Micro Analysis
JavaScript interacts mainly with the HTML source code and can perform client side validation before the data is actually sent to the web server as a request. JavaScript is a scripting programming language used mainly on the user interface and relies on whatever environment it is operating on. JavaScript has many qualities which is suitable for my project It can control the contents displayed by the browser. It can change the content of a document being displayed within a browser, but does not change the document itself. It is highly effective in client side data processing and validating.JavaScript can help me provide a useful way of controlling data on the client side.

Macro Analysis
JavaScript is open source and it follows standard ECMA-262 which is approved by ISO/IEC 16262. JavaScript proceeds to serve as a popular client side scripting language for various presentation tasks and sometimes database validation tasks. JavaScript support the development of accessible systems which it depends upon whether a user uses it for the development purpose or not. You can also download the multi language support JavaScript Code Library. In my project I will use it mainly on the client side for validation purposes. The users of this technology are application programmers where they add dynamic and interactive behaviours to their own web pages.

SERVER SIDE/WEB SERVER TECHNOLOGY
My project will mainly have a scripting language as a server side technology. Such a technology deals with the user request by running a script on the web server to generate dynamic HTML pages. Such a technologys major feature is to provide a sort of interactive environment between two entities a client and a server. One advantage of such server side scripting technology the responses based upon various user requests. Given below is a web server technology.

PHP (PHP Hypertext Processor)
PHP (PHP Hypertext Processor) is a server side scripting language which was originally designed for generating dynamic web pages. It generally runs on a web server accepting PHP code as an input and creating web pages as output. The advantage of PHP is that it can be used with a variety of databases for instance MySQL being the most common of them all.

Micro Analysis
PHP fits on the web server especially used for processing a request in form of HTML if it contains any PHP code. Although it iss similar to JavaScript but its server side validation as compared to client side validation. PHP is known to be a web server technology which will be suitable for analysing the document sent by the client as a web page which contain any PHP code It is an interesting language to learn. Therefore, a good challenge for my skills and also needs. PHP has many qualities for my project as I have stated earlier, the server side scripting, All the PHP code is executed on the server only with client receiving only the results of the script. PHP can also be embedded within HTML which is quite useful. Fast development time, easy maintenance and overall faster execution time. I also require a technology that will enable and help me produce a database driven content. Specifically for my project, I require the ability to develop a registration sign up and log in where people can join the community which will give them a personalised feeling to their own private account. When I have time I like to produce a rating system which gives the users a certain level of interactivity and tends to create a little more of a bond between the user and your website. And also if possible create a shopping cart and a secure payment link.

Macro Analysis
The reasons I chose PHP is that firstly PHP is open source, free and available on all platforms. It is also supported by a very large developer community with many articles, tutorials, and forums available online. It has extensive database support including native MySQL support which is the database I will be using on the server. PHP is standard for cross platform development of server side scripting developed by PHP group. PHP can be used across various operating systems. It is used extensively as a server-side scripting languages, but has options such as MS-ASP.Net, ColdFusion and JSP. PHP also supports the development of web applications but on the server side. PHP also allows switching to other languages for users by working with CONF languages variable. PHP fits in my web architecture on the server side for scripting and database access purposes. Users of this technology are application programmers working on the server side module and database programmer working on the execution of PHP and MySQL.

DATABASE TECHNOLOGY
My project also involves a database technology which is the most important module of the project as it contains the data storage. My project will involve a database management system which will be used for data storage data retrieval and data management.

MySQL
It is the most commonly used database management system with PHP. It is quite a popular database for developing web applications. In order to store all the dynamic information and results for my project I require a database that PHP can connect to. For this reason I chose MySQL. MySQL is a free, open source relational database server that runs on all platforms. It supports some advanced features such as reference constraints and transactions.

Micro Analysis
MySQL is a database technology which suits the need for database driven architecture. MySQL is a free database which can be downloaded and applied in the project straightaway. As compared to databases like Oracle and MS-SQL Server, its relatively small is size but yet effective to developing web applications. MySQL has many qualities for my project it is web oriented designed specifically for developing dynamic web sites. It is easy to learn and use. MySQL also provide quicker ways when used with PHP to deliver dynamic web page to user. MySQL does not interact with the client side in any way. However it does interact with web server technology for getting and recovering data.

Macro Analysis
MySQL has a large online community with various articles and tutorials available. Particularly there are tutorials that detail connecting PHP with MySQL. Examples range from simple insert select, and update queries to the more advanced topics such as session management and file uploads. MySQL also has commercial support available and also uses multiple languages and character sets. MySQL supports the development of systems whether it is used as a backend or not. The Users for this technology will be the end users for querying and database Administrator for administrative tasks.

By summarising this report the technologies that I had defined are well recognised throughout the world as being capable to work closely together to create a unique and powerful web application. With the use of these technologies it will assist and support my project.

High-School Students Suspended for Wearing Anti-Gay T-Shirts

Schools kids have a mind of their own with an enormous imagination. School kids having the chance to speak out, well not literally only shown on their t-shirts in which it was a way to convey their message. Kids were banned from wearing t-shirts that said "Sodomy is sin". Students wore t-shirts like this on the "Day of silence". The Day of silence is about stopping gay bashing. "Phil Spears, interim principal of Rio Linda High School said "They’re offensive to some people and disruptive to school," . "Kids are going to react to these." Students that were told to take their t-shirts off received a suspension. I agree if I wore a t-shirt like this back in my days I might get a beating for just supporting them. It depends in what cultural environment you are in and at what event it is worn at that it can cause problems. People need to have a broader understanding about the gay community. I don't see anything wrong with the gay community, people are the most delightful people of all and I feel sorry for some of the people who are still in their closet as some of their families won't accept the way that they are.

The world is changing and we need to learn to accept and understand their way of living. Being gay does not cause a world war and to day they haven't gone out and caused millions of deaths. Being gay is just an expression of who they are. Expression should not be restricted. We have a freedom of speech and what human have the right to say gays are not accepted?

Students are not experienced in being around gay people. They lack understanding and knowledge. Students should be taught about the gay community and this should reduce the nonacceptance in their community. School is a place where they need to provide information and understanding. Being GAY should not be seen as a sin, God created these people and why can't we learn from it?

Designers designing anything on anything: it can cause a controversy. Whatever is being designed it is born to be criticised no matter.

http://www.scrippsnews.com/node/21582- I wrote a comment which is taken from my blog and copied on to their website, I stayed anonymous just in case i receive an email bashing.

Skinny Models..

Famish television stirs outrage

This article is about the next top Australia's model and family are criticising on a 58kg and is 185cm tall model called Alice Burdeu. Families are complaining about allowing Alice to continue to the next round because she's not a role model sending positive messages to teenagers. "She looks like she's been in a concentration camp and yet she's being presented as a role model to teenage girls," the woman, who did not want to be named, told Confidential yesterday.

Is she too skinny? Skinny, what size is considered being skinny and what size is considered to be fat? Also what do we consider as a perfect body. Females body has changed over generations and what will be considered the perfect body in the next 10 years? Well I have to say being skinny is not considered a perfect body at all. Perfect in my eyes are different to another guys opinion. As long that the body shapes offer a positive message to the younger generation than thats a perfect body. I think in the next 10 years the women body will be look sporty and tone body shapes.

Not having a Fashion Channel on TV in India

I think I would go crazy...well not crazy crazy if we didn't have a fashion channel. Fashion assist us in many ways through colour, style and understanding how the body works...sometimes fashion can be protrayed positively or negatively. Obviously India decided that the fashion shown on their channels are not showing a positive outlook on women and style.

"The transmission or re-transmission of this channel on all platforms has been prohibited ... for showing programmes that are against good taste and decency, denigrate women and are likely to adversely affect public morality," a government statement said. I ownder what else they'll end up cutting since they banned AXN Satellite because they were showing the sexiest Advertisements.

Banning Skinny Models in London- Let's get a Big Mac

If you listen very, very carefully, you'll be able to hear the collective exhalation and slurping of some of the world's top models as they sigh with relief and tuck into hamburgers.

One of the biggest brands in British fashion has announced it will not send waifs down the runway at London Fashion Week. "No size zeros," Topshop declared, days after Fashion Week organisers refused to follow Madrid and Milan in banning bony babes entirely from the event.

"We are going to set the scene at the opening of London Fashion Week and I hope everyone else follows," Sir Philip Green, head of the Arcadia group, which owns Topshop, told the London Telegraph. "We all know what the definition of unhealthy is and we want to try to act correctly, responsibly and without causing a rift."

Setting a level is really good to carry in a positive message to the younger gerneration.

T-shirt with Attitude in Soho

Rebecca Sgan-Cohen started making shirts and selling them out in the streets of Soho. Her collections have been selected to be sold in some retail stores and to appear in musical films. Her collection have been on the front cover of time magazines atleast four times. I came across Kirsten Fleming in which she wrote a blog on this designer and have been out at her street store checking out her collections. The designer has now launched in to kid's wear.

The Mona Lisa

"Let us leave the physiognomic riddle of Mona Lisa unsolved, and let us note the unequivocal fact that her smile fascinated the artist no less than all spectators for these 400 years. This captivating smile had thereafter returned in all of his pictures and in those of his pupils. As Leonardo's Mona Lisa was a portrait, we cannot assume that he has added to her face a trait of his own, so difficult to express, which she herself did not possess. It seems, we cannot help but believe, that he found this smile in his model and became so charmed by it that from now on he endowed it on all the free creations of his phantasy".

(Sigmund Freud, Leonardo da Vinci: A study in psychosexuality. tr. A.A. Brill. New York, Vintage Books, [1955] Originally published by Freud in 1910, p. 79.)

From the beginning it was greatly admired and much copied around the world, and it came to be considered the prototype of the Renaissance portrait. It is difficult to discuss this work work briefly because of the complex stylistic motifs which are part of it and everyone's opinion and discovery on the painting. My interpretation of such a clever art of work is based on the perfect beauty of a woman. The slight opening of the lips at the corners of the mouth was considered in that period a sign of elegance. Thus Mona Lisa has that slight smile which enters into the gentle, delicate atmosphere pervading the whole painting.

Music

"To really appreciate the work of a musical artist you have to experience a song through every mechanism available, through the artist's voice, through the specific music instruments, through the carefully selected melodies, through the wonderfully written lyrics. Your first experience of a song and its interpretation should be by audio only. You have to be able to capture its meaning before it is corrupted by a visual expression. A song has to be free to speak a personal message and if a song is able to do that it is only because of artistic perfection. A music video takes away an artist's majestic power of illustration".

Coenraad de Beer http://ezinearticles.com/?Music-Videos---The-Extension-To-Musical-Expression&id=147796

I decided to look at not just baby expressions and shapes but at it from a Painters point of view on different age, body shapes and facial expressions. The Mona Lisa has a devious yet shows some sort of hidden secret behind the eyes and her smile. I took a look at Coenraad de Beer opinion on Music and video clips on how it conveys message to the viewer and to understand that just because there was a video clip for the music it does not mean that it really illustrates the meaning of the lyrics. The logo should clearly target the type of audience that we are trying to capture. Expression can be explosive or subtle depends on what the artists wants to portray.

Fashion

I could talk on and on about fashion, trend and so on but what I have come across is the African fashion and culture. I belive they are the most colourful country and very expressive in showing who they are. Clothing vary from ethnic groups and culture. Even though they come from the one nation they have different identity which comes back from their history. The people of Mende in Sierra Leone will give a cloth to the bride which denoted the "kind of afterlife one will lead". Everytime there is an event such a burial, wedding, birthday or some sort of celebration they would dress up for those occasions. African people truly know how to be colourful.

http://www.transafricaforum.org/reports/clothing_issuebrief0600.pdf

I shouldn't narrow my thought on logo but the overall impression of the company and how the word expression can be playful.....the song I have stuck in my head is "EXPRESS YOURSELF...." from Madonna!!

An individual can express themself through different areas such as fashion, music and through art. I'm sure there are more ways to express ones opinion but I see the most is through these three main stream categories.

Influences - Negative and Positive

Drive

I was looking for influences and I came across this identifying baby with rings. This logo is from Kendall Creative Shop, Inc the client is Drive, the industry that it is in, is Financial industry...quite strange and unusual.

I don't think this logo is very positive...the reaction on the baby's face isn't appealing.

Second logo - FirstFlight
design firm Cavalry Brand Development
designer Tom Nynas
client FirstFlight
art director Tom Nynas
industry
Flight School

A good image, not too much features, plain colours yet very appealing to my mind. But seen as a very structured shape form.

Going back to my logo, soemthing that come to mind, if I refer back to the photo of that flying baby;

  • Bunny ears on a baby would show a uniqueness and trend setter of an individual. The icon needs to be clever and a sense of quirkiness.
Baby = new, bunny ears = uniqueness or trend and maybe a designer with a new signature.

  • If a baby icon is designed alone without the bunny ears it will look too plain plus it feels like it is selling baby stuff rather than the designer appeal.

When designing and experimenting, make sure it doesn’t look like an actually bunny flying; must show a clear line to define a baby wearing bunny ears on its head. Something for me to keep in mind when putting the design together.

Have baby flying over some text?? Need to explore and worked on as this can create some personality.

design firm Born to Design
designer Todd Adkins
client Born to Design
industry Graphic Design

Very good way of introducing words such as young and inspired. Image really produce a lot of words into the mind. Suits the design company. A good aspiration, a little too cliche maybe??

The Second lesson in DMT

What a long week it has been works been all over the place gotta get people to be more organised. Working in my weekend what a pain but hey it's what I love to do. Now I get a chance to work on my blog whoohooo!!!

The Second lesson in Digital Media Technology was fun and different.
we learnt about Network, Protocol, Server, Client, and The Internet.

Tim has used interesting metaphors in representing how a network works and how it communicates from one computer to another. Which creates a better visual and idea of what network is really about.

Where the expression that he used was about a customer and a waiter at a restaurant. The customer will communicate where he/she will put an order of what he/she would love to eat. Which is known as Input in a computer's point of view where we will communicate to the computer by typing in the search engine field to what we're looking for.

After ordering your food you than receive the end result where either you been served with the right or wrong meal.
For example if you ordered chicken but in the end you received a steak. This could be because the exchange in language is different.

In a computer terminology this is known as Protocol which is the transmission of data where the language is the most important subject.

Here is a link of what I thought would be a great example about Network.

It's a funny ad about Pc and Mac where PC and Mac are holding hands which is networked together and the Mac is also holding hands with the latest digital camera which is a Japanese girl. The Japanese girl is than communicating in Japanese to the Mac and the PC has no idea of what the Japanese girl is talking about.

In a computer's point of view the PC and the Mac are both networked together and the new digital camera is networked to the Mac where the Protocol or language is than recognised and than both the digital camera and Mac can communicate to each other. Although in the end the PC can't communicate to the digital camera. Even though the Mac is like a server providing a service to let the PC use the digital camera.

incase you guys can't see this short ad here is the link
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ph-bU2zfBI

In Conclusion
Network is:
A connected system of computers or people.
Exchanging data from one computer to another.

Protocol is:
A way to communicate between computers or people.

Server is:
A computer on a network which provides a service to clients.
e.g email, internet, scanner.

We also did a quick activity in class where I shared my computer with another student I think her name was Seema she said she didn't know what to do but hey we went through it like as if we knew what we were doing hehehehehehehe. Thanks Seema.

During this activity we found our computer's IP address and the IP address of the UTS web server also how to ping and also we had to register a domain name checking if our name is already taken on the internet.

Seema was lucky she had logos of prestigious cars under her domain name.
I had a engineering service company how boring is that.

Alright I need a good cold beer right NOW or a few Tequila or vodka shots........zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Ohh yeh here is my SWOT analysis.

My very first Blog

My very first blog....
I don’t know what to say lets test this out....

Digital Media Technology is one of the subjects I picked up for this semester and one of the criterias is to write a blog.

Today I’ve been researching on what I should do for my project.
I’ve decided that I will be designing a website for my own business, that I would love to start up.

I’ve been researching on my SWOT analysis for my business and I will post it up soon.
